Winter Hair Care Tips

Don’t let your hair suffer through the cold – keep it happy and healthy!

Our winter hair care routine may not be at the top of the priorities list going into the winter months. But remember, just like your skin, your hair needs a good daily routine. There are many ways to maintain happy and healthy hair during the cooler months, and our professional hairstylists have highlighted the best winter hair care tips to follow.

Tip 1: Shampoos and Conditioners

We always recommend investing in a decent shampoo and conditioner as part of your winter hair care routine. It will help prevent dry, damaged hair, especially as we’re heading into the colder months. It’s important to know what ingredients you are using when washing your hair as this ultimately affects the condition of the hair.

There are some ingredients that we recommend you avoid – high salt contents, sodium chloride, sulphur and parabens. These ingredients can really leave your hair looking dry, damaged and unhealthy. We highly recommend products with lots of keratin in as this will really give your hair life and moisture.

Tip 2: A bonding treatment such as Wellaplex will give your hair an instant boost

The main objective with Wellaplex is to add keratin back into your hair where it feels dry. It also strengthens the bonds of your hair especially if it feels weak or damaged. 88% of hair is made from keratin and if your hair is looking or feeling, dry or damaged it’s because it’s lacking moisture.

Be wary of hair masks! They may feel good instantly but could actually be layering your hair with the product rather than addressing the cause. A buildup of product can make your hair feel heavy as well as be a cause of dandruff.

Wellaplex is the perfect product to use during the winter. If your hair is feeling dry, split or unhealthy, it can be used as a stand-alone treatment or within your colour service.

Tip 3: Products to protect your hair against the winter

If you’re rough drying or blow-drying your hair at home, you will need some protection from the heat from the dryer or from the cold outside. A good quality Keratin cream such as Kérastase Discipline Keratin Thermique Creme is highly recommended to include in your winter hair care. This product will protect your hair from heat, it is also an anti-frizz cream and keeps your hair looking moisturised. Other products such as heat protection sprays and serums also anti-frizz products will help prevent dry, damaged hair caused by central heating and the cold air.

Tip 4: Don’t wait too long for a hair trim

We advise to not leave a haircut or trim for more than 6-8 months, as this will keep your hair from looking healthy. Simply tidying the ends and maintaining the shape is all that is required as part of your winter hair care routine. No need to take 3-4 inches off to make it look healthy again! Sometimes half an inch is all that is required for healthier, stronger hair and to create a better shape. At Mudpak, we offer a Dry Cut service which is a quicker and cheaper option just to tidy up those ends!
